Day Nine  Going to the Pacific Coast

The day broke very drearily.  I certainly wasn’t able to see the top of the volcano.  In fact, it was so foggy I could barely see down the hill to the parking lot.  I let Mom sleep in until 5:30 a.m. when her alarm went off.
Today was transfer day. We were heading west to the Central Pacific Region and it was going to be a long ride. As we started up the mountain, Frank, the bus driver, pulled over in front of a little market on the side of the road.  Javier jumped off the bus and got me a large bag of fresh rambutans.  I was so excited.  Later on, I passed the bag around the bus for anyone who wanted to have one.  Javier showed us how to open them with our fingers.  I had always used a knife before.  They were so sweet and juicy.
Later, we stopped for a break at this great place to buy souvenirs.  Back on the bus, we headed to lunch and a crocodile safari at Tarcoles River Boat Tours.  Lunch was fantastic and the tour was great but very wet.  It poured during the entire safari ride but the boat had a roof so we did stay dry. We saw so many birds.  I especially was excited when I saw the macaw.   We did manage to see about four crocodiles swimming in the water even though the river was very high.

Back on the bus it was off to Punta Leona Hotel and Club beach resort.  Before dinner we attended a lecture on the Conservation and Development of the Central Pacific Area by Roy Arroyo.
The evening ended with dinner and I must say, it was the worst dinner we have had yet.  I am still so disgusted with it that I can’t even write about it.  Hopefully tomorrow with be sunny so we can check out the beach on the Pacific Ocean.
